Timothy C. ParrosFounder
Timothy C. Parros, a Financial Advisor with over 25 years experience in the industry, knows that the two of the biggest issues for his clients are retirement and paying for college. He noticed again and again that parents were struggling to find a way to pay for a college education without taking on a great deal of debt or dipping into their retirement resources. He began to look for other ways to advise his clients on paying for this important event in their lives. This lead to him to find better ways for his clients and into the specialty of College Planning and Funding.
Tim now holds the title of Certified College Planning Specialist, distinguishing him as having the highest level of competency, commitment and ethics in the college planning profession. He is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), and the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA). Membership in these organizations requires strict adherence to ethical codes. To date, Tim has participated in 150+ in-depth campus tours and has met with Admissions and Financial Aid Deans across the country. He has coached over 1,000 students and families through the college selection and financial aid process, successfully helping them reach their goals with greater predictability and more confidence. His students have been accepted into colleges across every range of selectivity.
Tim's expertise include providing his clients with education and advice on financial aid, education savings plans, tax reduction strategies, cash flow enhancement, gifting and loan strategies, but most importantly how to get students into the college of their dreams. Tim began his education at a community college and has a great appreciation of how difficult it can be to find the right college fit. Tim has been featured in TV channels such at TV 20.
Tim is married to Kim, who is also involved in college planning, and they enjoy raising their son Nicholas, who is now a freshman in High School. They have two dogs, Reilly and Sierra and they call Dexter their home.

Lisa Schmidt is a licensed counselor through the state of Michigan and is a national board certified counselor. She has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, and a master’s degree in school counseling. She is a member of The Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling and The Michigan Counseling Association. Her experience in both college admissions and college counselling helps her to provide families with the tools to succeed beyond the application process.
In addition to her passion for helping students and parents navigate the college process, Lisa brings her skill and direct knowledge from advising high school students. She particularly enjoys helping students discover the wide variety of colleges and universities as they work toward finding the right school match. She understands what makes college a home, and has a passion for helping young people make the most of their college experience.
Our team approach is to help students discover and understand what they want from their college experience, develop their voice, broaden their perspective, and find the right fit. This takes a great deal of anxiety out of the process and helps the college search become more of an adventure and less of a headache.
Some higlights of her goals:
- Help students prep, focus and reach deadlines through their college application process
- Suggest colleges that are the right match, where students can flourish and grow
- Provide an outsider's expert objective view on your family's college investment
- Help students present their best selves to colleges
- Inspire students to take charge of their own college search while learning how to make important life decisions
- Assist students in creating college resume that will make an impact
- Create an activity record that will open college doors using academics, outside activities and summer programs
- Bring proficiency to decisions on educational and career goals and choices
- Help make the college search less stressful, more effective and manageable
Lisa is also the mother of three, with her oldest going through the college selection process currently.
Madeline (Maddie) Riley is a senior in the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. She joined Parros College Planning as a Marketing Assistant in September of 2016.
Before joining the team at Parros, Maddie cultivated skills in both the fields of marketing and education. Previously a policy research intern at the US Department of Education, she gained a comprehensive understanding of higher education, and completed projects based mostly in Federal Student Aid. She also has worked in digital strategy and traditional media roles across several industries.
Maddie tracks and analyzes Parros’s online presence to generate dynamic strategies that boost their visibility. She also manages Parros’s social media platforms, produces biweekly articles, and acts as the liaison between Parros’s experts and media professionals. As a current student, she has a unique appreciation for the work done by Parros, as not so long ago, she was going through the difficult process of applying to colleges without the irreplaceable help of a college planning service. Her goal is to communicate to students and their families the value of advanced planning in achieving their educational goals.
