As a follow-up to my November blog post explaining the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), here are 5 reasons parents should complete the FAFSA, even if they have erroneously been told before they “make too much money”:

  1. By filling out the FAFSA, students are eligible for federal student loans
  2. Students will not be eligible for campus work-study jobs if they do not complete the FAFSA
  3. The FAFSA allows parents the ability to borrow through the Federal PLUS Loan Program
  4. Without the FAFSA, it is unlikely that students can qualify for state financial aid
  5. Some colleges won’t grant students merit aid if they do not complete the FAFSA

The FAFSA can be completed as early as January 1. Get started here: https://fafsa.ed.gov/
